Ensuring a Safe and Enjoyable Motorcycle Ride

Riding around the countryside on a motorcycle offers a better perspective of what the Philippines has to offer in terms of scenery, enjoyment, and gaining a truly unique holiday experience. It also considerably shortens the time of travel from one point to another, especially when you have to negotiate the busy roadside activities and traffic of a major town or city along the way. Things can turn out bad, though, if one is not careful and disregard traffic /safety rules. On your next motorcycle ride around the Philippine countryside, especially in and around the islands of Panay, Negros, Ceby, Bohol, and Palawan, the following reminders should come in handy when you travel using your motorcycle.
The Philippines offers something different in terms of road conditions and availability of and motorbike fuel/service stations en route, hence, it is always good practice to first have your motorcycle checked by a certified mechanic, especially if you are just renting a unit. Before you embark on your journey, make sure that your bike’s engine is in top condition,  tires have the right air pressure, your lights are working, the accelerator and clutch cables in good shape, engine oil and brake fluid are on safe levels, and there is enough fuel to enable you to get to your destination. Don’t forget to bring essential spare parts and a set of tools to help trouble-shoot your way out of a technical situation. Keep your driver’s license handy. Also have copies of the Certificate of Registration, LTO official receipt, and other pertinent papers ready when the need arises, especially since there are police check points along the way. While travelling, always wear proper safety gear like helmet, gloves, vest, and knee/elbow caps for protection. If you are not familiar with the route you are taking, check your map for orientation or directions.
For your personal convenience, always bring with you a bottle of water, energy-rich snacks, and medication for headache, upset stomach, cold/cough remedy, and insect repellent.  Make it a habit to carry a roll or box of tissue paper and/or wet wipes.
Most of us who love to ride have enough riding experience to help ourselves and riding buddies to play safe when a situation arises. But why get yourself into trouble if you can always be extra-careful to avoid getting into one and experience a trouble-free, enjoyable, and memorable vacation?
